Reverence and Awe

Oh Lord

I go with you throughout My day

Not once awestruck or pausing to give you glory

For your longsuffering Me along My way

I soil you with My unclean thoughts

“Better strife than shame,” I hear Myself shout

Whenever you whisper of My guilt or

Rebuke Me for My doubts

I swaddle you a weakling with My fears

I forget you in My anger

I fault you for My tears

I taste you in My bitterness

I ignore you in My pride

When I protect the things I covet

I count it justified in your eyes

When taking credit for something done right

I’m good at pushing you aside

When wasting prayer on My pleasures

I treat you like a traitor

When getting what I want I make you out a spy

When in the dark place of My heart behind closed doors

I turn you the blessed and only sovereign into the Idol I adore.

Forgive me Lord

Be merciful to me the sinner

Remember my frame and my lawlessness no more

Make of me dust and ashes

Season me with salt surrendered on Your altar

Fill me with the Holy Spirit’s purifying fire

Give me of Your kindness godly sorrow

Turn my laughter into mourning and my joy to gloom

Keep me from shrinking back

Give me the confidence that comes from repentance

Let me see You with thanksgiving

Blood red in appearance like a clear as crystal stone

Through Jesus Christ our Lord seated upon

Your emerald-haloed throne

Let me remember obedience

Let me remember

.~ have been redeemed from my

Futile way of life with the precious blood of Christ —

For He was crucified because of my weakness yet

Lives because of Your power

Let me remember the cost in principle and sentiment

Offering up a hymn of praise

The fruit of lips confessing His name

With my body a living and holy sacrifice

As my spiritual service of worship

Taken up with reverence and

Entered with awe remembering

You alone are the Lord our God

You alone are holy

The Almighty worthy of all glory

Oh Father hear my cry and let me live Your answer

Amen
